Note me
Well, the snowball keeps rolling along, getting bigger little by little as it goes. The show went better than I imagined. Being a fairly new artist (well, public artist anyway) with only two shows under my belt, I am just amazed that people seem to love my work so much. There were 41 artists showing, besides myself, at this exhibit - most of them seasoned veterans of the local scene and beyond. There were two fairly well known artists that I was honored to be hanging in the same room with as well; Lee Harvey Roswell, out of San Francisco, and John Pound, most noted for the Garbage Pail Kids and Wacky Packages trading card series. Honestly, I would have been happy if my little story ended there, but alas, my good fortune seems to know no boundaries these days!
Matthew Oliveri, owner of Accident Gallery, which is probably the hottest gallery along the coast between San Francisco and Portland, and is the gallery where the show was held, approached me with an offer of membership and gallery representation, telling me that in his opinion (which I hold in high regard), my piece was in the top 5 best in show. Rachel Schluter, a prominent local artist who had her own painting hanging right next to mine, and who subsequently got a huge write up in the North Coast Journal (north coast arts and entertainment newspaper) for her contribution to the show, said that she thought my painting was the best in the entire gallery! Lee Harvey Roswell requested my online portfolio, and I have been conversing back and forth with him a bit; turns out one of his best friends is also a really good friend of my wife's. (can you say, "Kismet!") I got a nice little blurb in the Journal as well, so, that makes two shows, and my name appearing in print for both... not bad if I do say so myself!
The whole thing is weird - one day my wife goads me into inquiring about having a show in a tiny boutique, the next day I'm being represented by an up-and-coming gallery, and talking to Lee Harvey Roswell. Crazy... but cool! I can smell a S.F. show on the wind... it's faint, but it's there. If I could get a show at a decent San Francisco gallery, then maybe (and god help me for even thinking it) my goal of being in Juxtapoz or High Fructose could actually be realized! Wow. Too crazy, for sure.
Unfortunately, I cannot post the piece on dA, as it is too graphic... but I will put it in my online portfolio. It's called "Dirty Mouth". Go to

I had been following his work for some time and didn't know him well personally - but it's so sad to hear of these things. Let's hope we don't lose more talented deviants this way.
